WELCOME

The GIS Center is a General Department within the Minister of State for Antiquities (MSA). The department was set up as a Centre of Excellence within the Public Sector, to manage and protect the Egyptian archaeological heritage by establishing a GIS based system, intended to identify the location and characteristics of the archaeological sites and monuments registered by the MSA.
This system contains maps and other data with information on the exact location, legal status, archaeological contents, and current threats for each site. Through a systematic coverage of large areas of Egypt, the system now contains information about ancient Egyptian, Coptic and Islamic sites, as well as some outstanding examples of contemporary architecture from the 19th and 20th centuries.  Read more about MSA
