Photos are captured during site visits to create a detailed photographic record for each site. Provided with a sketch of the borders of the site, the photographer marks location and direction of each photo. In the meantime, the archaeologist creates captions for all photos; these captions can be as simple as the direction from which the photo is taken or a detailed description of the photo elements.

Back at the GIS Center premises, the photos are filtered (repetitive or insignificant photos are eliminated) and filed to be afterwards entered into photos database along with its caption.

Photos are linked to sites in “SCA Archaeological Sites Database” through the unique ID code of the site.
